Tinubu Administration Anchors Governance on Continuity, Says Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is firmly committed to policy continuity and stability of governance, describing it as a moral obligation necessary for Nigeria’s sustainable development.
Akume spoke on Tuesday in Abuja at the inauguration and maiden lecture of the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement (RHGM).
He was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Office of the SGF, Mr. Nadunga Gagare.
“Continuity is not just a governance principle but a moral obligation to secure sustainable development and prosperity for all,” Akume said.
He explained that the theme of the lecture, ‘Continuity in Governance and Government Policies: Panacea to Sustainable Development in Nigeria’, was both timely and fundamental to the progress of any nation.
He noted that Nigeria’s history has been marred by the tendency to abandon projects, programmes, and policies whenever there is a change in leadership.
According to him, this cycle of discontinuity has stalled development, wasted resources, and slowed progress.
“Sustainable development however thrive is on consistency. A road statyed by one administration should be completed by the next,” the SGF said.
Akume emphasized that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu is anchored on strengthening national institutions, implementing reforms that outlive personalities, and ensuring that governance becomes more about systems than individuals.
He described the grassroots movement as more than a ceremonial event, but an initiative that speaks directly to the yearnings of the masses for inclusive and accountable development.
“The Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement has a duty to mobilize, sensitize and ensure that citizens not only understand but take ownership of government policies,” he added, stressing that the grassroots remain the heartbeat of democracy and are critical to the success of government policies.
Earlier, Ambassador Isaac Chigozie Udeh, National Leader of the RHGM, said the movement was established to consolidate support for the President ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said: “President Tinubu is no longer the problem of the coalition but the Renewed Hope Grassroots Movement because it has taken over the grassroots.
“We are here because we are comfortable with the policies of President Bola Tinubu and don’t want anybody else to come and carry out any experiment with us. Nigerians need to be patient because what we are going through is like pregnancy, there will be joy very soon.”
In her remarks, the RHGM National Women Leader, Mrs. Soaga Abiola, expressed confidence that the movement’s efforts would not be in vain, insisting that Tinubu must be retained beyond 2027.
She highlighted the importance of women’s participation in leadership and called for the allocation of deputy positions to women, stressing that no nation can thrive without their contributions.
The event featured goodwill messages from RHGM members in the Diaspora, patrons, zonal and state coordinators, and leaders from across the six geo-political zones.
Highlights included the inauguration of national officers, zonal and state coordinators, the national youth leader, as well as the presentation of awards to distinguished Nigerians.
