The Nigerian Government has restated its resolve to bolster international diplomacy and strengthen foreign cooperation through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) scheme.

The Director General (DG) of NTAC, Rt. Hon. Buba Yakub emphasized that the initiative remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s foreign policy, particularly in promoting South-South collaboration and sustainable global partnerships.

For nearly four decades, according to him, the scheme has served as a platform for deploying skilled Nigerian professionals to partner nations, enhancing knowledge transfer, building institutional capacity, and fostering mutual solidarity.

Speaking on Thursday during a working visit to Monrovia, Liberia, where he met with Liberia’s Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Yakub reiterated that the TAC scheme reflects Nigeria’s enduring commitment to regional development and diplomacy.

The visit, according to the DG in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Nkem Anyata-Lafia, was part of broader efforts to evaluate the impact of the scheme and explore areas of enhancement, particularly in education and capacity building.

The DG explained that the TAC programme, established almost 38 years ago under the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has become a flagship vehicle for advancing bilateral ties with countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to the continent’s progress under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Yakub noted that the scheme aligns seamlessly with the administration’s 4-D Foreign Policy Blueprint: Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora.

He added that the mission to Liberia was not only about evaluating outcomes but also about identifying ways to deepen strategic cooperation between both countries in line with their shared developmental priorities.

In her remarks, Dr. Jallah praised Nigeria’s longstanding partnership and acknowledged the vital role Nigerian volunteers continue to play in Liberia’s development, particularly within the education sector.

She described the TAC initiative as pivotal to the country’s human capital advancement.

The Nigerian delegation also included NTAC’s Director of Programmes, Ambassador Zakari Usman; Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires to Liberia, Mrs. Rahmat Bola Muhammed; and other officials from the Nigerian Mission in Monrovia.

During an interactive session with Nigerian volunteers, the DG reviewed their experiences, achievements, and the challenges they face on the ground.

He commended them for their professionalism, resilience, and commitment to impactful service.

Yakub assured the volunteers of continued institutional backing, stressing that the TAC remains an essential arm of Nigeria’s international engagement framework.

He emphasized that the scheme not only strengthens bilateral relationships but also promotes grassroots diplomacy and shared progress.

The DG also urged the volunteers to maintain the high standards of service that the programme is known for, highlighting the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian professionals abroad embody the values of unity, excellence, and service in their host communities.
