Marc Marquez extended his MotoGP championship lead with a hard-fought Sprint victory at Assen, fending off brother Alex Marquez to the chequered flag after taking the lead from Fabio Quartararo on lap one.
Marco Bezzecchi claimed his first Sprint podium for Aprilia in third, overtaking Quartararo early as the Yamaha rider slipped down the order before crashing out with four laps to go.
Despite starting from pole, Quartararo lost the lead to Marc Marquez at the final chicane on lap one, then quickly fell behind Alex Marquez and Bezzecchi.
Marc briefly ran wide mid-race but recovered with consistently fast sectors to seal the win.
Francesco Bagnaia’s Sprint struggles continued as he was passed by Fabio di Giannantonio for fifth.
Fermin Aldeguer and Pedro Acosta received long-lap penalties for track limits, with Acosta dropping to ninth after failing to serve his.
Crashes took out Joan Mir and Raul Fernandez, while all riders opted for soft tyres amid cool track conditions.
Warmer weather is forecast for Sunday’s 26-lap grand prix.
