Institute Honours NTAC DG
The Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate and inducted as a Fellow of the Emergency Crisis and Risk Management Institute of Nigeria, in recognition of his exceptional leadership, professionalism, and contributions to humanitarian diplomacy.
The honour celebrates Dr. Yakub’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s global engagement through the deployment of skilled professionals to countries in need.
The awards were conferred during a courtesy visit to the NTAC headquarters by a delegation led by Dr. Chuks Akawo, the Director-General of the Institute.
According to Akawo, under Yakub’s leadership, NTAC has deepened its technical assistance to African, Caribbean, and Pacific nations, with more than 10,000 Nigerian volunteers deployed to over 40 countries since the Corps’ establishment in 1987.
This sustained commitment to South-South cooperation, he said, has reinforced Nigeria’s image as a responsible global partner in addressing skill shortages and supporting development in vulnerable regions.
Akawo praised the NTAC boss’s competence and dedication to service, citing his integrity and impact as key reasons for the dual recognition.
He also highlighted the Institute’s interest in forging institutional collaboration, particularly through academic and professional programmes that align with NTAC’s peace-building and humanitarian objectives.
In his remarks, Dr. Yakub expressed appreciation for the recognition, noting that it reflects the importance of NTAC’s mission and the government’s broader efforts to promote international goodwill.
He reaffirmed the agency’s readiness to collaborate with the Institute in advancing shared goals of peace, safety, and sustainable development.
