To mark his 63rd birthday, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, extended a philanthropic gesture to patients in critical need across several hospitals in Lagos by offsetting their medical bills.

The initiative, which benefitted 40 patients in total, was carried out on behalf of Gbajabiamila by Fuad Laguda, member representing Surulere I Federal Constituency.

The gesture covered hospitals including the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Randle General Hospital, Gbaja Maternal and Child Care Hospital, and Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital.

Speaking during one of the cheque presentations, Laguda explained that the Chief of Staff chose to celebrate his birthday by offering support to individuals battling serious health challenges.

“This is not just a symbolic act, it is a statement of what leadership should be, service, compassion, and real impact.

“This initiative stands out as a personal show of empathy and public service from one of Nigeria’s leading political figures and this reinforcing calls for a more humane and people-focused approach to leadership,” he said.

He emphasized that beneficiaries were selected strictly based on medical need, following recommendations by hospital administrators, with no consideration for religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

“The Chief of Staff wants this to serve as a reminder to other leaders and well-meaning Nigerians that supporting those in need should be a shared responsibility.

“We spent over ₦50 million covering bills ranging from ₦200,000 to ₦5 million,” Laguda said.

Former Lagos Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Agboola Dabiri, who was also part of the hospital visits, praised Gbajabiamila’s approach to leadership, saying, “Rather than host a lavish celebration, he chose to touch lives quietly but powerfully.

“That’s the mark of a true servant-leader”.

At Randle General Hospital, a visibly moved Head of Medical Services, Dr. Mojeed Lateef, expressed gratitude for the support received.

“One of our patients, a victim of a violent machete attack was brought in unconscious and without identification.

“We’ve been caring for him not knowing how the bills would be paid. This intervention has brought hope not just to him, but to our entire staff,” he said.

A recipient at LUTH, Samson Dawudu, who received ₦5 million to cover his treatment, described the assistance as nothing short of divine intervention.

“I was in prayer when help arrived. This is the kind of support that restores faith in humanity,” he said.

Other recipients also offered heartfelt thanks, with many describing the gesture as life-saving and praying for continued success for Gbajabiamila in his role at the Presidency.
