President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Morenike Grace Henry (JP) as Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, marking the first time a woman will hold the position.

Henry, a veteran and pioneer of the Female Military Veteran Association (FMVA), currently serves as Director of Corporate Affairs at the Nigerian Legion’s national headquarters.

In a statement on Thursday by Henry David, Assistant Chief Information Officer at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, her appointment is seen as a significant step in broadening women’s representation in leadership within the veteran community.

In her new role, she is expected to collaborate with the Ministry of Defence to enhance the welfare of ex-servicemen, support families of deceased veterans, and promote reintegration efforts such as training and employment.

The Nigerian Legion also plays a key role in fostering unity among former service members and ensuring they receive appropriate recognition and support.

Henry began her military career as a dental nurse in the Nigerian Army and has undergone several professional trainings, both during her service and while with the Legion.

She has also worked to strengthen ties between the Nigerian Legion and international veteran organizations in the UK, US, and Canada.

In addition to her military background, she leads Hengramore Care Home, a voluntary organization focused on supporting vulnerable populations, including women and children.

Her track record in both social service and military support roles is expected to shape her leadership in the Legion.
