The Federal Government has refuted claims suggesting the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos is faulty or unstable, dismissing them as baseless and malicious rumors intended to cause unnecessary alarm.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, reassured the public that the bridge, along with other key infrastructure in Lagos, has undergone comprehensive integrity tests and remains in excellent condition.

In a statement released by his Media Adviser, Uchenna Orji, Umahi stressed that allegations of structural issues on the 11-kilometer-long bridge are unfounded and likely aimed at discrediting the efforts of the Ministry of Works and the current administration.

Orji noted that, upon learning of the rumors, the Minister promptly deployed a team of engineers, led by Olukorede Keisha, the Federal Controller of Works for Lagos State, to conduct a detailed inspection of the bridge’s entire structure.

“The findings are consistent and reassuring—the bridge is structurally sound, with no compromise to its integrity,” Umahi stated.

He called on the public to disregard the false claims, emphasizing that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made significant strides in addressing inherited infrastructure challenges.

Umahi added, “The Third Mainland Bridge, along with other critical bridges in Lagos, has been prioritized for repairs and maintenance due to their importance to transportation and connectivity in Lagos and beyond.

“The Renewed Hope administration is committed to ensuring Nigeria’s road infrastructure meets the highest standards. Repairs to the bridge’s superstructure, substructure, and underwater elements reflect this dedication.

“Our focus remains on quality, efficiency, and delivering long-lasting value in road development projects across the country.”
